| It Increases Productivity
When people are comfortable, they don't fatigue as quickly. When people are NOT in pain, they can think at their best and be at their most creative. Plus Onsight has a special interest in the efficient use of computing. We emphasize and teach shortcuts and keyboard equivalents so people don't waste time and injurious hand and arm movement doing things the long way at the computer. It Saves Money Losing an employee to computer injury an all too common event means paying overtime to others (who might also be pushed past the line of injury), and wasting precious time with a new hiring search and bringing a new worker up to speed (assuming they work out). Dealing with Workers' Compensation and the loss of a valued work is what costs money. Lots of it. Many companies waste money on ergonomic products which they don't really need, or buy expensive chairs which are not actually good designs. At Onsight we help our clients spend money appropriately and reasonably on a per person basis according to real ergonomic need and benefit. It Doesn't Cost Much There is always tremendous potential for improvement and injury prevention working with the existing setting. Beyond the important issues of seating, keyboard, mouse, and monitor, small details the wastebasket, telephone, binders, and general space planning of the workstation have major impact on what people do with their bodies at work. It is extremely rare for an Onsight consultant to not make a meaningful difference immediately after a workstation visit. Management fears that an ergonomics program will cost them thousands of dollars per person in furtniture and products is simply not borne out in reality. You Already Have Ergonomics ...but until people are trained in how to adjust their chair (hardly anyone really knows how), where to position their adjustable keyboard tray, or locate the monitor, the "ergonomic" products they have are not ergonomic at all. They might even be a SOURCE of strain. Training and education are critical components of an ergonomics program. It Opens Up Communication Workers often become disabled with repetitive strain and cumulative trauma injuries because they wait until the pain is severe before they speak to their manager. Often, it's too late to remove the ergonomic stresses that caused the injury. An ergonomics culture in your office encourages people to speak up sooner, rather than being afraid of being stigmatized as complainers. This ultimately saves the business substantial amounts of money. Everyone's Hurting Think everything is fine? All you need is to look through our files of employee questionnaires to see how rare it is for someone to not report chronic discomfort at work. Again, they don't speak up because they care about doing their job well. We are always amazed at how we always find a connection between that pain and a correctable cause either in the physical workstation, or in the work style of the person. ALL THIS PAIN IS COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE. It's Great for Morale Employees respond with greater loyalty when they see that their employer is committed to their health and safety, and takes measures to help them do their job at the high standards of professionalism we find most employees hold. Onsight's Training and Workstation Consultation services are one of the best investments any organization can make in its staff and its business goals.
